Formentera, May 9, 2026
El Pilar de la Mola is getting ready to celebrate a new edition of the San Juan Festivities, an event that will bring together residents and visitors around tradition, popular culture, and community spirit. This year’s program will feature activities for all ages, combining charitable initiatives, gastronomy, music, and traditional celebrations.
Among the most important dates on the festive calendar are June 20, 21, and 23. During these days, the village will host a wide variety of events across different locations, becoming one of the island’s main centers of activity.
One of the biggest highlights of the San Juan Festivities 2026 will be the return of the Flower Party, one of Formentera’s most iconic celebrations. The event revives the essence of the hippie movement that turned the island into an international landmark during the 1970s, transforming La Mola’s church square into a vibrant setting filled with music, color, and festive atmosphere.
The eagerly anticipated San Juan Night, marked by the lighting of the bonfire, will once again be the centerpiece of the celebrations. The program will keep some of the festival’s most deeply rooted traditions alive and will culminate with music and festivities lasting until the early hours of the morning.
June 20: Flower Power Party
The program will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a yoga session led by Julie Crespin at La Mola School. Later, at 10:00 a.m., ASPANOB will organize a workshop in the Casa del Poble square to raise awareness of the work carried out by this Balearic association, which supports children with cancer and their families.
In the afternoon, at 6:00 p.m., the Parish House will host an exhibition of historical photographs. Later, at 8:30 p.m., a popular barbecue featuring pork loin and sausages will bring together residents and visitors to enjoy traditional local food.
The day will conclude with the Flower Party, which from 10:00 p.m. onwards will fill La Mola’s church square with music, flowers, and color. The first Flower Power Party of the year in Formentera will feature DJ No Mercy, DJ Pep Pujol, and the legendary DJ Pharma, who will provide the soundtrack for a celebration lasting until 4:00 a.m.
June 21: Gastronomy and Crafts
From 10:00 a.m., the church square in El Pilar de la Mola will host a charity sale of cakes and savory products, followed by a paella lunch served at 2:00 p.m. All proceeds will go to support ASPANOB.
The program will continue in the afternoon with the La Mola Craft Fair, which will open from 4:00 p.m. onwards, offering visitors the opportunity to discover products made by local artisans while enjoying the traditional atmosphere that makes this market so unique.
June 23: San Juan Bonfire
The evening of June 23 will once again be one of the most eagerly awaited moments of the festivities. Events will begin at 8:00 p.m. with the celebration of the Sant Joan Mass.
Half an hour later, the traditional ball pagès performance will take place, presented by the groups Es Pastorells and Es Xacoters. The event will also include a tasting of homemade fritters and sweet wine, two traditional elements of this celebration.
At 9:00 p.m., another popular barbecue featuring pork loin and sausages will be held, while at 10:00 p.m., the band Sur will perform live to entertain the crowd.
Midnight will mark one of the most symbolic moments of the festivities with the lighting of the Sant Joan bonfire, a deeply rooted tradition that will once again bring together large numbers of attendees. The musical program will continue from 12:15 a.m. with a performance by Billy Flamingos, bringing one of the most special nights of the celebrations to a close.
Free Bus Service
To facilitate mobility and improve road safety during the busiest days of the festivities, a free bus service will operate on the nights of June 21 and 23, connecting various points across the island with La Mola. This initiative aims to reduce the number of private vehicles on the roads, help lower the risk of traffic accidents, and prevent parking areas in the town center from becoming overcrowded during the main festive events.

I discovered the island in 1972 when my parents, aboard the mythical Joven Dolores, took me on vacation from Ibiza for the first time, and it was love at first sight that has only grown stronger over time, making Formentera my place of residence for many years now.
