The summer of 2024 marks a new chapter on the beaches of Formentera with the introduction of new beach kiosks at various points along the coast, impacting the entire island. With the new concession awards, the beach kiosks that were familiar until summer 2023 have given way to new proposals. Although the locations of the new kiosks will be the same as those occupied by the old beach kiosks in Formentera, curiosity about the atmosphere and services offered by the new concessionaires keeps us all eager, both residents and regular visitors to the island.

We’ll inform you about the new names that we’ll need to get used to from now on. As we learn more details about the new beach kiosks in Formentera from 2024, we will update the complete list of the new beach kiosks—where to find them, their names, and what you can expect and find at each one.

As of today, we can provide some information about several of the eight beach kiosks that will soon open in Formentera. They are all currently in the process of assembly and construction.

New Owners

At the end of the 2021 season, a public tender was announced to manage beach elements such as umbrella and sunbed rentals, sailing schools, and beach kiosks.

Following numerous legal, political, and administrative challenges, the former beach kiosk concessionaires were granted a two-year extension of their permits, covering the summers of 2022 and 2023.

Finally, after facing various challenges and uncertainties, the winners of the tender for the new beach kiosks have had their results confirmed and have started assembling their respective kiosks.

As of late June, none of the beach kiosks are yet open, but it is expected that the first ones will begin offering service during the first half of July.

At present, most of the names of the new kiosks have not been publicly disclosed. As we learn more details about each of them, we will add them accordingly.

Will They All Look the Same?

The answer to this question that many have asked during the process of awarding beach kiosks in Formentera is simple: No, the beach kiosks in Formentera will not all look the same.

Let’s detail certain considerations that will determine the appearance and functionality of the new beach kiosks in Formentera starting from the summer of 2024:

– Uniform Dimensions: All beach kiosks must have the same dimensions, exactly 60 square meters. This area will be divided between the space for serving drinks and food, the shaded terrace area, and the bathroom facilities.

– Quality Standards: Although each beach kiosk may have a different exterior design, all must meet the same quality standards regarding the materials used in construction.

– Freedom of Design and Exterior Appearance: There is no single model that must be replicated across all concessions. Each new winner of a beach kiosk concession in Formentera has had the freedom to design the exterior appearance of their kiosk, as long as they adhere to the parameters established by the public tender.

It’s worth noting that Bartolo’s Beach Kiosk will undergo a complete change in appearance, as they have not been allowed to reassemble the wooden structure with its vibrant colors that made it recognizable over the years. This will be a significant aesthetic change for those who have enjoyed that beach kiosk for years.
