Formentera, June 18, 2024
The installation of the eight beach kiosks in Formentera is still on hold due to the lack of a crucial visit by the personnel from the General Directorate of Coastal Affairs of the Balearic Government. This team is responsible for authorizing on-site all the necessary elements to begin assembling the installations, a critical step for the concessionaires to move forward.
Although the visit was scheduled for June 14, it was canceled without clear explanations and without a new defined date, further extending the endless wait that is affecting both new concessionaires and beachgoers. These elements are deeply rooted in the spirit of Formentera, especially during the summer season.
It’s common for residents to explain to regular visitors the reasons why, in mid-June, the beach kiosks in Formentera are still not set up.
The new date being considered for the visit of the Coastal Division technicians is June 20, according to sources from the Consell, which aims to expedite the process and streamline the installation of the beach kiosks in Formentera for the 2024 season.
The concessionaires, who are already facing logistical and economic challenges, indicated that delays are complicating the organization and hiring of necessary personnel, especially during peak season.
Juanjo Costa, responsible for the future ‘Amagatai‘ beach kiosk in Migjorn, where the ‘Lucky‘ kiosk was located until last summer, recently mentioned on Formentera’s public radio that he had hoped to open by July 10. However, due to the latest delay caused by the Coastal Division technicians, it will be impossible to meet that projected date.
These circumstances and concerns have led several new concessionaires to already start paying their future employees, despite their beach kiosks not being operational yet. This is to ensure that they will be available when the beach kiosks in Formentera can finally be set up.
From this blog, given the expectation generated by the installation of the new beach kiosks, we will continuously update the information we gather to keep informed, to the best of our abilities, about the circumstances surrounding a topic that is attracting considerable interest among regular visitors to the island.

I discovered the island in 1972 when my parents, aboard the mythical Joven Dolores, took me on vacation from Ibiza for the first time, and it was love at first sight that has only grown stronger over time, making Formentera my place of residence for many years now.
