Chiringuito KM11 was the last of Formentera’s eight beach bars to open and kick off the summer season of 2024 at the location previously occupied by the iconic Pirata Bus. Since August 3, 2024, and at least until the end of 2030, this new beach bar, inspired by the fishermen’s huts found along the coast of Formentera, will serve those looking to enjoy a drink or a meal on the west end of Es Arenals beach, in Migjorn.
The kiosk is notable for its use of wide wooden planks arranged vertically, with the wood grain patterns cleverly disguising the spaces where doors and windows are located when opened.
Kiosko KM11, which matches the size of other new beach kiosks in Formentera, covers an area of 60 square meters. It includes an outdoor area under umbrellas, a covered area shaded by the windows when open, the interior of the beach bar itself, and separate public restrooms.
It’s worth mentioning that Chiringuito KM11 is equipped with solar panels and accumulators to generate as much clean energy as possible to keep it running. When this supply is insufficient, it also has a backup generator.

Beach lot number 38, previously known for hosting the popular Kiosko Pirata Bus, was ultimately awarded to Monolisto SL to manage what will now be called Chiringuito KM11.
The owner, who was born and raised in Formentera, is committed to making Kiosko KM11 a place where both Formentera residents and island visitors can come together. Special attention will be given to those who have been visiting this Migjorn spot for years and have made it their summer meeting place.
The name chosen for the new kiosk references several concepts. Firstly, the most obvious, the kilometer point 11 on the road leading to Es Arenals. Additionally, KM represents the initials of Kiosko and Monolisto, the name of the company managing the beach bar. As an added detail, the owner celebrates his birthday on the 11th of November.
Many factors come together for the new kiosk at Es Arenals to be named Chiringuito KM11.
As we approach the end of the first season at Chiringuito KM11 and the other Chiringuitos in Formentera, I can say from my personal experience as a frequent customer that the changes made to this chiringuito, compared to the old Pirata Bus, have been minimal. Thanks to the dedicated team and the vision of the new owner, the essence of the place has remained just as we knew it until 2023.
This personal opinion is shared by the majority of people who visit Chiringuito KM11, and a clear proof of this is the rating it has received on Google from customers of all nationalities. Out of a maximum score of 5, it currently holds a rating of 4.5, with reviews particularly praising the prices, which are more affordable compared to other chiringuitos. Notably, the price of the Mojito has dropped compared to what it was last year.
Let’s hope they continue this approach to service, quality, and pricing throughout the remaining years of Chiringuito KM11 Formentera’s concession.

The music will follow the same style as what was typically heard at Kiosko Pirata Bus, with a foundation of classic rock combined with alternative music. The musical selection will vary depending on the time of day and the ambiance at Chiringuito KM11.
The first sunset of this new beach bar in Formentera called KM11 was accompanied by the song ‘Follow the Sun‘ by Xavier Rudd, and it seems that it will stay that way at least throughout this summer.
The new owner’s intention to offer a project that continues the legacy of the old kiosk is evident in the fact that much of the team at the new Chiringuito KM11 consists of those who worked at Kiosko Pirata Bus in recent summers.
The new owner is well aware of the high quality and service provided at Pirata Bus under Pascual and Edit’s direction until 2023. Chiringuito KM11 aims to provide both regular and new customers with a similar atmosphere and experience. The goal is for KM11 to become a standout among Formentera’s beach bars starting from the summer of 2024.
When asked about his plans and expectations for the new chiringuito, the owner repeatedly said, “I want people who visit Chiringuito KM11 to feel comfortable, happy, and to see that this kiosk preserves a piece of the Formentera we’ve always known.”
On a personal note, I remember when, many years ago, it was common to find Backgammon and Chess boards in all the beach bars of Formentera, available for customers to play while enjoying a beer. These games disappeared from the kiosks many years ago with the advent of smartphones and changing habits in general. The novelty is that the new owner, who also misses those “good old times,” has purchased several Backgammon boards for the use of regular customers. I love gestures like this.
You can count on me, the reader of this website, to join you for a game or two while we enjoy a cold beer.
I hope the wishes of the owner of Chiringuito KM11 come true. The island has seen many changes in recent years, and I like to believe that, despite everything, we can continue to enjoy a kiosk like the one we veterans had at this same spot on Migjorn Beach in Formentera.

I’m Ramón Tur, the person behind everything written and photographed on this website about Formentera. I discovered the island in 1972 when my parents, aboard the mythical Joven Dolores, took me on vacation from Ibiza for the first time, and it was love at first sight that has only grown stronger over time, making Formentera my place of residence for many years now.
