Formentera, June 19, 2025

The Festes de Sant Joan 2025 are already underway in El Pilar de la Mola, which every June fills with celebration, culture, and joy. The festivities, organized by the Associació de Festes de La Mola, began on June 11 with a full moon walk and will continue until June 28, when the traditional cantada pagesa will bring them to a close.

However, it’s during the key dates — especially June 21 and 23 — that the festive atmosphere reaches its peak. Locals and visitors alike will be able to enjoy a wide range of activities designed for all audiences.

From exhibitions and workshops to concerts, children’s games, traditional dances, and the lighting of the giant bonfire, each event is aimed at celebrating the cultural identity and spirit of the island while welcoming the summer.

Here’s a detailed look at what will take place during the most exciting days of the festivities: June 21, with a night dedicated to the 80s spirit, and June 23, when the emblematic Nit de Sant Joan is celebrated, full of symbolism and magical atmosphere.

June 21: The festivities kick off with an 80s vibe

Saturday begins at 6:00 PM with an exhibition of old photographs at the parish house — a chance to remember what life was like in Formentera back in the day. Starting at 7:00 PM, children can enjoy bouncy castles in the square, while the adults get ready for the first major culinary event of the festivities: a grilled feast of pork loin and sausages, served from 8:30 PM.

The evening will carry on with a festive atmosphere driven by great music. At 10:00 PM, DJ Carlitos will open the dance floor with a session full of classics, setting the tone for what’s to come. At midnight, it’s time for La Movida Ibiza, with DJ Petit and Vázquez getting everyone dancing with a selection of 80s hits. The party will continue until 4:00 AM in what promises to be an unforgettable night.

June 23: The magical Nit de Sant Joan

Monday brings the much-anticipated Nit de Sant Joan, one of the most symbolic and special nights of the year. The activities will begin at 6:00 PM with a Mass, followed, as tradition dictates, by another community barbecue starting at 8:00 PM, which will last as long as there’s meat to grill and appetites to satisfy.
At 8:30 PM, local folklore takes center stage with the ball pagès performed by the groups “Es Pastorells” and “Es Xacoters,” showcasing Formentera’s folk roots.

At 9:30 PM, homemade buñuelos and sweet wine will be served, just before the concert by SUR kicks off at 10:00 PM, marking the beginning of the evening’s music. At 11:45 PM, the sound of the gaita pagesa will announce one of the most anticipated moments: the lighting of the Sant Joan fire at midnight, a ritual full of symbolism that represents purification and the start of a new cycle. The music will continue with DJ Manceboss until 2:00 AM, closing out a magical night under the stars.

Stay safe

If you have the chance to be in Formentera between June 21 and 23, don’t miss out on heading up to El Pilar de la Mola to experience the Festes de Sant Joan firsthand: the music, the tradition, and the fire of the Nit de Sant Joan.
But once the party ends, drive carefully. Having had too much to drink, combined with the winding road almost all the way to Es Caló, can turn the end of the night into a danger for you and for everyone else driving at that hour — so please, be cautious.

In any case, head up and enjoy a truly unique evening on Sant Joan night in El Pilar de La Mola, Formentera.
