Chiringuito Karai was the second to open and kick off the summer season of 2024 at the location previously occupied by Kiosko 62, and even further back, Chiringuito Sun Splash. Starting from July 20, 2024, and at least until the end of 2030, this new chiringuito, inspired by Baja California, will provide food, drinks, and music for those who choose to enjoy this beautiful stretch of Migjorn Beach.
The design of the kiosk features a covering of thin wooden slats that completely encase its exterior walls, along with the black Karai logo, welcoming customers from a distance. The lower part of the bar is adorned with colorful vintage-style metal advertising replicas that you’ll likely find intriguing as you approach to order your food or drink from the young team working at the new Chiringuito Karai.
Like other new kiosks in Formentera, Chiringuito Karai has a 60-square-meter area, divided between the work zone, a shaded covered terrace, and an open terrace for customers, as well as space for restrooms. The chiringuito is equipped with an electric generator for situations where the solar panels and accumulators it has are insufficient to meet the kiosk’s energy demands.

As expected, given the surfer-inspired theme that will define this new beach bar in Formentera, rock music from the 70s to the present day will be the musical backdrop for those enjoying this new spot on Formentera.
The music will be played at a level that enhances your time at the chiringuito without hindering conversation or interfering with the enjoyment of the sea sounds just 10 meters away from the Chiringuito Karai terrace.

Nico Antico and Enrico Gagliardo, two Italian residents with many years of experience in Formentera, will be in charge of the new Chiringuito Karai, which replaces the old Kiosko 62 at the western end of Migjorn Beach. Both have extensive experience in the hospitality industry and currently also manage the well-known Restaurante Al Dente on the Es Pujols promenade.
Chiringuito Karai is inspired by the surfer vibe of Baja California. From its design to the music and the food menu, it will evoke this part of the legendary Mexican peninsula, bringing it to Formentera and the turquoise waters of Migjorn Beach in this stretch of the coast.
The owners have shared that their intention is to continue serving the loyal local clientele of Formentera who enjoyed the previous chiringuito at the same location, while also offering a different experience for the tourists who visit our island every summer.
My first impression of the new Chiringuito Karai after its opening has been very positive. It’s a place with a distinctly beachy decor, featuring colorful elements that still maintain the relaxed spirit that, in my opinion, all beach bars in Formentera should convey. The musical selection is excellent, at least from my perspective, and there’s a very relaxed atmosphere between guests and staff. I wish the new Chiringuito Karai many successful and enjoyable summers in Formentera.
I’m Ramón Tur, the person behind everything written and photographed on this website about Formentera. I discovered the island in 1972 when my parents, aboard the mythical Joven Dolores, took me on vacation from Ibiza for the first time, and it was love at first sight that has only grown stronger over time, making Formentera my place of residence for many years now.
