Thefts and cocaine

Formentera, 4 May 2026
The early hours of Saturday, May 2, saw several incidents in Formentera, where different events disrupted the island’s usual calm and required intervention from security forces.
In the es Pujols area, unknown individuals broke into several beach chiringuitos during the night, causing structural damage as well as stealing various items from inside.
At the same time, and also during that same day, an unexpected discovery was made in another part of the coastline. Cleaning workers found a package of cocaine just a short distance from the shore.
Both incidents caused concern among residents and local authorities, especially as they occurred within a short time frame. The Guardia Civil took charge of both investigations to clarify what had happened.
The events took place shortly after 2:00 a.m. on May 2, when several individuals forced the door of the Nuu kiosk, located in the northern area of es Pujols beach.
According to initial evidence, the perpetrators used a tool similar to a crowbar to gain entry. The alarm did not go off for reasons that have not been disclosed.
The intruders searched for cash, but only managed to take a few euro cent coins. They also stole some equipment from the establishment and a few bottles of liquor. The kiosk’s owners reported the incident to the Guardia Civil.
Shortly before 2:30 a.m. that same night, the alarm at the Briss kiosk, located near the Es Pujols promenade, was triggered.
The owner went to the scene along with officers from the Local Police and the Guardia Civil. There, they confirmed that someone had tried to force the door, although they were unable to enter the establishment.
Both businesses had already suffered robberies in 2024. That summer, Briss was targeted twice and Nuu once.
That same Saturday morning, municipal cleaning service workers found a package of cocaine in the cala en Baster area.
The package was located in a rocky area, just a few meters from the sea. It was wrapped in white plastic and was roughly the size of a brick.
According to initial estimates, the package weighed around one kilo and could have reached an approximate value of €60,000 on the black market.
The package was transferred to the analysis services of the Subdirectorate General for External Health, where its composition and purity were verified. The Guardia Civil took over the investigation to try to determine the origin of the package and the circumstances of its arrival on the coast of Formentera.
Formentera has recorded similar incidents in recent years. In January 2025, the sea washed up a bag containing around 30 kilos of MDMA tablets onto ses Illetes.
Significant quantities of cocaine have also appeared on other occasions. In May 2019, a 25-kilo package was found in es Arenals, and in March 2016, three punching bags containing a total of 53 kilos were discovered in Migjorn.
