Kiosk Gitana Formentera: Opening Date

Chiringuito Gitana was the first to be ready and open its doors among all the new chiringuitos in Formentera from 2024 to 2030. It kicked off the summer season and beach service at Es Arenals in Migjorn on July 18, attracting many residents and regular visitors to the island who were eager to see the new Chiringuito Gitana.

With a very cheerful and colorful decor in every aspect surrounding the new chiringuito, no detail has been left to chance. From the exterior decoration, and the selected tables and chairs, to the uniforms of the entire Gitana team, the place stands out with a very personal style compared to the old beach chiringuitos we knew in Formentera.

Chiringuito Gitana, like its predecessor in the area, Kiosco La Franja, will have the restrooms separate from the main body of the kiosk, creating two distinct blocks. Personally, I find this option very appropriate for those kiosks where the Coastal Demarcation requires it. It separates the service area from the restroom area, which also houses a generator for cases when the solar panels and batteries are insufficient to meet the energy demands of the kiosk.

After my first visit, I must say that I miss having larger shaded areas than those provided in the initial days of operation of this new beach kiosk in Formentera.

How to get to Chiringuito Gitana?

To reach Chiringuito Gitana, follow these simple directions:

1. On the main road towards La Mola, at kilometer 11, on the right side of the road, you will find a turn-off towards Es Arenals beach.
2. After about 150 meters, you will come to a fork. Take the asphalted road to the left.
3. Stay on this road without deviating for 1.2 kilometers, following the signs leading you to Hotel Maysi.
4. Just before reaching the hotel, you will see a dirt road on the left. Follow this road for 350 meters until you reach the parking area.
5. From there, walk down to the beach where you will find Chiringuito Gitana.

Opening Hours at Gitana Kiosk

Chiringuito Gitana will open its doors every day during the summer from approximately 10:00 AM until sunset. The closing time will vary, adapting to the sunset as the days get longer or shorter depending on the time of year, always offering an experience both during the day and at dusk at this beautiful stretch of Es Arenals beach.

During the winter months, the Chiringuito Gitana opens from Friday to Sunday, as well as on public holidays, from 11:00 until sunset. It must remain closed for one month a year between January and March.

Chiringuito Gitana Formentera – Project

Chiringuito Gitana will be managed by the company “Delle Vittorie,” under the direction of Italian Lorenzo Biancolella, who has been living in Formentera for many years and is the owner of two renowned restaurants on the island: “Bar Restaurante Marino” in La Savina and “Malagueña” on the road connecting Sant Francesc with Sant Ferran. To complete the management team of the new beach bar in Formentera starting in 2024, Francesca Coccia, a well-known photographer in the celebrity world, will also be part of the team.

One aspect that sets Chiringuito Gitana apart from other beach bars in terms of construction and setup is undoubtedly the speed with which the installation was carried out once the wooden base was placed exactly at the location determined by the Coastline Demarcation agents.

Unlike other beach bars, the owners of Gitana opted for a modular structure delivered on a platform from Barcelona, with the internal installation nearly completed, saving time and providing the convenience of working in a warehouse rather than on the beach.

The progress made in just one day was spectacular, and at the time, I had no doubt that Chiringuito Gitana would be the first of the new beach bars on Formentera’s beaches to start the summer season in 2024.
